Why is it that the very thing we know we should be doing we avoid at all costs?

I was so tired one night last week. I needed sleep. I stayed up. When I finally put myself in bed I was thinking (for a brief second before sleep overtook me) why did I stay up? I wanted sleep. I needed sleep. It’s an hour and a half later than I wanted to be in bed. What was I thinking?!

Sometimes we’re afraid to miss out.

My house was quiet. I didn’t want to go to bed! I wanted to enjoy a quiet evening by myself! Even though I was miserably tired, the idea of “wasting” this great evening kept me up way too late.

We avoid the thing we should be doing when there’s far more at stake than sleep. What are we running from? Why are we running from it?

If you’ve had your back to something you know you should be chasing down, take a deep breath, turn around and march straight at that thing.
